The Snæfellsjökull glacier sits at the Western edge of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Snæfellsjökull sits on top of a volcano that last erupted 800 years ago. The Snæfellsjökull glacier is endangered. Some experts predicting another 15 years before it is gone. Below the glacier is a mighty volcano which last erupted in almost 2000 years ago. These glacier activities could be among the last in this area. The views from the summit are breathtaking if conditions are clear.
The meeting points for the glacier hikes are about 2.5 hours drive from Reykjavik.

The tour start at our office (Meeting Point B). To start we drive to our snowcat at 1000m. Then we hike up to Snæfellsjökull glacier’s North Summit during the sunset.
The hike is quite relaxed but does require average or above average fitness. We may use snowshoes or crampons depending on conditions.
Glacier hike includes
• Gore-Tex outerwear/shell (if needed)
• Mountaineering/hiking boots (if needed)
• Water, sports drinks and energy bars
• All necessary glacier safety gear
o Ice axe
o Helmet (if needed)
