Day two: Vik

On day two, we take you to some amazing shooting locations on the South Coast of Iceland.

We stop first at Seljalandsfoss waterfall. It is possible to walk behind this 60-metre waterfall allowing for endless compositions. Then we drive to Skógafoss waterfall. This waterfall has a classic shape, but more powerful than Seljalandsfoss. Already you will be capturing the incredible forces in the Icelandic nature.

After you have photographed these waterfalls from many different angles, we drive you for the sunset on the black-sand-beach at Reynisfjara. Reynisfjara is an amazing black beach with dramatic geology. Photograph the Reynisdrangar sea-stacks while the restless ocean pounds the black beach. The Dyrhólaey rock-arch and cliffs with basalt columns are nearby waiting to be photographed.

We stay the night in the quiet Vik village. This evening at Vik could be your first chance to photograph Auroras.

Day three: Vatnajokull

On the 3rd day, we continue to drive the rest of the South Coast to photograph incredible natural locations in Iceland’s South-East.

We venture on to the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon. The famous lagoon has super icebergs the size of buses. These mini icebergs slowly reduce in size before they escape to the ocean. There are also many seals that live in the lagoon – a treat for wildlife photographers.

At sunset, we make our way down to the Diamond Beach, where crystal ice washes up on the black sand beach. There are fantastic photo opportunities with the blue ice contrasting with the black sands and ocean spray. These glacier features also work well for Aurora photography.

We spend the night close to Jökulsárlón.

Day four Vatnajokull

On day four, we return to the ice beach for some morning light. Then we take you under the glacier to a crystal blue ice cave. The ice caves are only safely accessible Mid – Winter. Entering an ice cave is a memorable and truly incredible adventure. Assistance from our professional photo-guides will make your ice cave experience a successful photographic endeavour.

After capturing the incredible blues in the ice cave, we head off to photograph more great photography locations in the Vatnjökull area. The choice of locations will depend on conditions.

We could drive you to Fjallsárlón glacier lagoon. This a less visited lagoon with lower chances of having crowds of tourists. At Fjallsarlon, you can get closer to the glacier tongue.

We hope to finish the day at Jökulsárlón and Ice Beach to capture some Auroras above them.

Day five: Vatnajokull

We start the day with a sunrise on the ice beach. If conditions are good we will go to Iceland’s famous mountain landscape at Vestrahorn for the afternoon. This location is rich with tussock foregrounds and the reflective black sand near the ocean. The mountain looks fantastic in Winter afternoon light.

We will also use the day to explore less well known photo locations in the region, where you can photograph the south-east in its winter colours including Vatnajökull glacier and the surrounding glacier landscapes.

We hope to be able to hunt auroras before retiring for one more night near Jökulsarlon.

Day six: Skaftafell – Vik

On the 6th day, we stop at Skaftafell Nature Reserve as we leave the Vatnjökull region. Skaftafell was its own National Park but has become part of the Vatnajökull National Park. The area contains the diverse features that make Iceland so popular with photographers. Here you can photograph glacier tongues and lagoons, waterfalls, mountains and volcanoes. We stop for several hours so you can photograph them all.

After photographing this fantastic location, we head back along the South Coast to Vik. Here we could have another chance to photograph Northern lights before staying the night in the picturesque village.

Day seven: Geysir – Gullfoss – Thingvellir

On this day we visit some of Iceland’s National treasures. The geothermal zone at Geysir will give you a chance to capture the eruption Strokkur Geysir. Strokkur is the younger brother of Geysir and erupts every 5 – 10 minutes. This should give you many chances to perfect your photography skills. The next stop is Gullfoss. This is Iceland’s biggest waterfall complex as thousands of liters of glacier melt water cascades over multiple tiers into a deep canyon. We then make a stop at Thingvellir National park which is a UNESCO site. Here there are many fantastic photo features such as the waterfall at Öxararfoss and the tectonic plates where the continents are slowly drifting apart.

We return to Reykjavik and over our evening meal in Reykjavik, you can share your new photography collection with each other.
