Aurora lake

Aurora lake near Reykjavik This is a small lake close to the city of Reykjavik. There is some light pollution, but facing North it is possible to get some good Northern Light exposures. The reflections can be very good for photographing Northern Lights.

Northern Full Beam

Northern lights full beam This is a mountain road just 20 minutes from Reykjavik city center. The car with its lights on full beam might have upset some photographers, but I like the way it gives extra depth and texture to the road. Aurora photography is better with a snow covered landscape.

Mountain Aurora

Iceland mountain aurora This mountain is on the South coast of Iceland just a few miles from Skogafoss. It was moving quickly and this was one of many photographs from this spot.

Jökulsarlon Aurora

Jökulsarlon Northern Lights The glacier lagoon in South East Iceland is a top location for Northern lights photography. However this night, the display was better in the opposite direction over the cafe building.

Northern lights – Aurora Borealis evening tours

AuroraTour
Northern lights cannot be viewed during Summer. Tours run 20th August – 15th April.

On offer is the chance to join one of our talented photo guides in South West Iceland when Aurora conditions are very good with at least 70% chance of viewing. We use local knowledge, experience and aurora hunting technology our aim is to get you to great spots away from the city lights and away from the tour buses.

We offer a quality tour with fellow photographers, with experienced driver/guides who are just as keen as you to get uninterrupted aurora shooting in the best possible locations. Our guides are experienced instructors with years of experience on Iceland photo workshops.

Designed for photographers by photographers… beginners welcome!

We can’t guarantee aurora viewing, even with good visibility and a strong forecast.

Duration and times

Tours will be 5-6 hours flexible and will only normally happen if there appears to be 70% or more chances of catching auroras… although you can negotiate with your guide. Tours normally leave around 20.00, but this needs to be discussed with your guide.

Meet the guides…

We all have several years experience chasing auroras in Iceland. We have all been published internationally.
