    Day 1:

Arrive in Iceland and transfer to Reykjavik. Check-in to your Reykjavik Hotel (included) and explore the city. Evening meal (included) to meet with Skarpi and discuss practical and safety notes.

    Day 2: Thingvellir and Vík

With an early start, we catch sunrise in Thingvellir National park before heading towards Vík along Iceland’s South Coast. This gives you the chance to explore Iceland’s famous icons such as the volcanic black sand and sea stacks at Vík and the Giant waterfall at Skogafoss. Many other ice-photo opportunities at Seljalandsfoss and Dyrholaey.

    Day 3, 4 & 5: Vatnjökull National Park

After sunrise at Vík on day 3, we head to a great hotel in a great location for some quality time among Europe’s largest glacier. Jökulsarlon and many glacier lagoons and moraines set the scene for some epic Winter light. Ice-caves captivate your imagination and the random chunks of glacier ice on the volcanic black sand test your photography composition. Northern lights frequently adorn the clear night skies here and an Aurora in this landscape is a real treat.

    Day 6: East Fjords

The beautiful shallow Fjords in the East are just around the corner, with some of the most beautiful mountains in the country and endless winding roads with some good Winter photo opportunities. This area is so quiet that you will feel like we are the only ones on the planet. Our Hotel is in a fishing village with a beautiful mountain view.

Day 7,8 &9: Myvatn and the Major waterfalls

From the East fjords we head to the Winter paradise at Myvatn. With 3 days in this diverse part of Iceland there is time to relax in the Geothermal pools. Apart from the relaxing down time, the area has amazing locations that can be visited on each of our 3 days there. Our photo workshop visits amazing waterfalls at Godafoss and Dettifoss.

We travel to the remote waterfalls at Aldeyjarfoss and Hrafnabjargarfoss. These waterfalls look amazing in mid-Winter and can only be accessed with specialist vehicles. The geothermal features in this volcanic area are very colourful and the lava fields are crazy. Northern lights over the mysterious Myvatn is made easy with a great hotel location. Our photo workshop is designed for aurora photography.

    Day 10: North West Coastline

After our last breakfast at the Myvatn Hotel, our photo workshop joins the ring road back to Reykjavik, stopping at the best locations such as Hvitserkur along the way.

Day 11: Departure Day Transferred from your Reykjavik Hotel to the International airport in Keflavik.

Autumn in Iceland | Winter workshops

    Iceland Winter Photo Workshop

In this Winter Landscape Workshop, you will join Iurie Belegurschi and friends and seek out the breathtaking Icelandic nature. Special focus will be will be on nighttime and ice photography.

Central features of this workshop are:

    • Northern Lights
    • Ice caves
    • Jokulsarlon
    • Ice beach

    Aurora Hunting

This amazing natural phenomenon, also known as Aurora Borealis is essential for any visitor of Iceland in winter. Given good weather conditions, usually cold and crispy nights, the lights are most likely to be seen from September to April. Dancing and blazing through the clear Arctic sky in hues of fluorescent green, orange, purple and shades of red, blue and yellow, the Northern Lights have an air of mystery, quiet grace and beauty and provide a stunning imagery for photography, particularly given the improved technology for filming and photographing them in later years.

    Aurora Borealis Northern Lights

To those who’re familiar with Superman’s arctic hideaway, this is as close as you’ll ever get to it in real life.

Art Wolfe in an ice cave

    Ice Caves

These beautiful ice caves, deep blue like the ocean, are entirely made of ice; cavities that have opened within a glacier. Snow, ice and air have all contributed to shaping and sculpting them, leaving amazing patterns of great variety. Some of the best examples are seen in the area of Vatnajokull, Europe‘s largest glacier, particularly by the Kverkfjoll mountains, where there is a vast one that has a vertical range of 525 meters (1,722 ft) and is 2,8 kilometres (1,7 m) long. Photographing is excellent here, as the interplay of the light and the ice offers amazing imagery.

    Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon

You will visit the beautiful Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon more than once on your photo workshop. More than 300 feet of ice break away from the glacier Breidamerkurjokull into the lagoon each year, with huge glistening icebergs of various shapes and sizes drifting towards the sea.The beach itself is further riddled with icebergs. There is also plenty of bird life in the area and seals stay there during wintertime. Not surprisingly, this site has often been chosen for films, as well as being an ideal place for photography.

    Famous Ice Beach

Winter mornings are particularly great for capturing the early sun rays that fall on the ice.

Our Winter Photo Workshops always have a flexible itinerary, so that participants can maximize the existing weather conditions.
