East Iceland south of the Vatnjokull glacier has some of the most spectacular nature in the world. The Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon is formed by the retreating glacier which regularly deposits icebergs in the lake.
When the icebergs get smaller they escape the lagoon’s narrow channel into the Atlantic Ocean. These mini icebergs get washed up onto the diamond beach.
The diamond beach with its black, volcanic sand became an obsession for me. It wasn’t unusual for me to get up at 04.00 to take the 5 hour drive to catch a sunrise on the diamond beach. I had to run to catch the sun for this photo because the slippery roads slowed me down a little.
Diamond Beach
The diamond beach is such a fantastic photo location. The glacier ice sculpted by wind, rain, sun and ocean makes unique crystal sculptures every time. Part of the skill of the photographer is to find the more attractive pieces. Fortunately, the blue ice in this nature photo turned out to be attractive as it was the only ice on the beach that morning.
Wall Art
Iceland Nature photography looks amazing as a print hanging on the wall. The materials of choice show my photography in a vibrant way with rich contrast to mach the drama in the Icelandic landscape.
