Driven by a passion for photography.
My 14 years in Iceland were driven by my passion for nature and photography. I was inspired by the diversity of the landscapes, the beauty of the Northern Lights, and the extreme weather conditions.
I started IcelandAurora around 2008 to document my photographic approach to nature photography in Iceland. My photo tutorials include landscape, long exposure, and night photography, with plenty of discussion about the Magic Cloth Technique, which made me famous for a while. The Magic Cloth Technique is a long exposure method for balancing the exposure in a landscape photo.
Tours & Workshops
IcelandAurora turned into a photo tour business for 10 years until the travel restrictions in 2020 laid my livelihood to rest. But this period taught me a lot about nature photography. In part, I learned from the hundreds of photographers who came on tours and workshops with me. During this time, I also developed a crippling condition, which affected my mobility and my ability to properly photograph the challenging landscapes of Iceland. Although it was sad to quit after 10 years of tours and workshops, it has been an amazing memory, and I have built a huge collection of Icelandic nature photography.

Location Travel Guide
My knowledge of Iceland’s best photo locations is reflected in my location guides. These are packed with tourist and travel information as well as photo tips for the travel photographer. The guides are categorized as ‘Landscapes and Coastlines’, ‘Waterfalls’, ‘Glacier Ice’, ‘Volcanic’, and ‘Other’. These photo guides will also help you book nature activities and tours or plan an Iceland self-drive.
Nature Photo Prints
With such a huge collection of nature photos, I have now turned my attention to making my photo art available as high-quality prints. My gallery pages display some of my best work, which can be ordered as wall art prints, photo books, yearly calendars, and more. This is an easy way to bring the beauty of Icelandic nature into your home. In times where we cannot travel as freely as before, the need for people to explore Iceland online has increased, and so that is the aim of continuing to write and promote my photo galleries.
I fell in love with Iceland before I started this journey of photography and running tours and workshops. I then saw Iceland change under the strain of mass tourism, and it was as profound as a volcanic eruption or a stubborn glacier. What seemed like a dream come true for me became a sort of nightmare.
I got tired of living out of hotels and endless airports, and I also considered the cost of air travel on the environment. Now I don’t own a car. I do my shopping and commute on a push bike or walk. I grow my own vegetables and compost. I worked in a school during the lockdowns, where I had the privilege and honour to help vulnerable children.
Lately, I have not been able to work due to unbearable pain. My income is very low, so it would be nice to sell a few of the photographs I have taken over the years.
