Rauðisandur, a photo by Iceland Aurora (Photo Tours) on Flickr. The beautiful red sand at Rauðasandur in the Westfjords is amazing to see. Especially when the sand in the rest of the country is black. This was a couple of second exposure as a big wave retreated back into the ocean. Dynjandi B&W, a photo by Iceland Aurora (Photo Tours) on Flickr. The Dynjandi waterfall in the Westfjords is the mother of all Icelandic waterfalls. Easily the most beautiful waterfall in Iceland, but very challenging to photograph. There is every type of waterfall here. The strong flutes, the power walls, the delicate cascade and the main attraction – the huge cascade at the top. The major challenge here is that your lens is going to distort the shape of the big one. To get up to its level you have to be stood under it and looking up the mountain. I have seen some...

Fjaðrárgljúfur

Fjaðrárgljúfur, a photo by Iceland Aurora (Photo Tours) on Flickr. This beautiful river gorge near Kirkjubærklaustur in South East Iceland had a fresh blast of snow on this February evening. Join me on a Photo Tour of Iceland It can be beautiful to wade up through the canyon. Usually the river is low enough to allow safe access to most of the canyon floor. The deepest part to cross is over the knee, so regular boots wont suffice. This shot was taken from the little road bridge which spans the river. View more images on my main GALLERY...

Stokksness

Stokksness, a photo by Iceland Aurora (Photo Tours) on Flickr. A beautiful coast in East Iceland. Here I used a magic cloth technique to give the sky occasional short bursts of exposure to increase the blur. Over the 30 seconds, I exposed the sky with around 6 X half second bursts… equalling about 3 seconds. The foreground had around 20 seconds of exposure, because half of the sky exposures were reverse grad exposures. Thanks to Ronni Hauks for introducing me to this side. Vestur Serpent

Vestur Serpent, a photo by Iceland Aurora (Photo Tours) on Flickr. Beautiful Vesturhorn from the beaches of Stokksness – this was a real wave dodger as I had to run down to the rock between waves and had about 10 seconds to compose and shoot before the next big wave!! Green Lantern 2

The aurora was not very exciting, a bit of activity on the horizon, I think the cloud is more interesting. Green Lantern 2, a photo by Iceland Aurora (Photo Tours) on Flickr. So I decided to close the aperture to f/4 in order to get better details and DOF in the foreground ice. Either my focus was not perfect or the front ice moved slightly because it is not super sharp. I suspect the former because getting front to back sharpness with f/4 is not easy. The majority of ice and the stars are acceptably sharp, it is just the front 2 pieces which were compromised, although it works on this...
